Elder Hikimai Johnson - Feb 2009

Hikimai is still serving in Hemet, CA and enjoying his time doing missionary work. His trainer extended his mission, but was transferred to another area. Hiks new companion is Elder Tart. He is from Clinton, North Carolina of all places. This was in my District when I served in Fayetteville, NC. Small world! We have communicated with this comps mother and it's been fun exchanging facts about our son's. Elder Tart is the only boy in his family and last child.

Hikimai and his trainer had a baptism before transfers. He wrote that he played the piano for the baptism and also gave the baptism talk. He is so excited about his first baptism. The person's name is James and they are now teaching him the new member discussions.

They are working hard and the Lord has blessed them with new investigators. His letters are so much fun to read as he describes the work and teaching the investigators. They really have it made with dinner appointments almost daily. Of course they still eat at DQ for free. He mentioned that he has put on a few pounds. That is fine since he was like a bean pole when he left for the MTC.

He loves the gospel and relates how the spirit directs them to areas that they didn't know existed. They were tracting one day and came across an area in between orchards that they had driven by time after time and didn't see it. When they started tracting, they taught at the first door they knocked on. They then talked to a guy that was fixing someone's car and he wanted to know more. He related a story of when he was in prison, people layed their hands on his head and gave him a blessing. During the blessing, he saw a vision of an angel. When Hiks pulled out the Book of Mormon, he said, "That's the angel that I saw in my vision, who is that"? They taught him as much as time allowed since he was working. Unfortunately he lives in another area. Hiks gave him a Joseph Smith pamphlet, got his name and address and forwarded it to the mission home. He has been blessed with so many neat experiences that it would take too much space to write it all.

We thank all of you for your prayers and faith in behalf of Hikimai. He has truly been blessed by your prayers.

Cabes - Feb 2009

Caleb's JV team went undefeated in their region. He was able to play a lot of minutes and did a great job. He played on the varsity squad, but only sparingly. He didn't like practice, but he liked playing in the game. They beat their rivals Alta HS twice this season and that was awesome. Beating your cross town rivals makes your season. Many of the players on both teams at one time played with each other on the county and city youth leagues. That's why the rivalry is so strong.

He went to Alta's Sweetheart Dance with Sammi. Yes, it's the rival high school. What can I say, he's a lover, not a fighter! She plays softball for Alta. They had a lot of fun according to Cabes. The next weekend he went to Jordan's Sweetheart Dance with Carly. She also plays softball for Jordan. Must be something going on with softball wahines! Anyway, they had a fun time and Cabes liked the dance. Cabes is now into club Volleyball at Jordan. Hopefully they do well this year.

Cabes will be participating in the Youth Temple Celebration in May. He will be dancing. There will be 10,000 youth participating, the largest youth celebration in the Church. It is to celebrate the Draper and Oquirrh Mountain Temple dedications. Should be a grand time for all......
